Nature’s wrath

After the heavy fall of thundery rain
the canal is deathly silent… bloated
with not a sight of bird
or ripple of fish

only the scent of earth
and the fading static of nature’s wrath

a fragment of spring

… he sits feeling the warmth of the spring breeze. A chaos of midgies hover near the edge; some are caught in a cobweb as mallards float along, birds hidden in the trees make themselves known and little buds begin their openings.

All these goings on are disturbed by the noise of a chugging barge churning the silt. A magpie swoops to the other bank to peck at something in the grass and there a moorhen comes out from the dark overhang. The magpie does a little dance and is gone as a another barge comes along in the wake of those returning mallards.

It’s quiet now but for nature’s song. The magpie returns with its mate pecking and tugging with hungry abandon, and there they’re off to the trees.

He sits trying with all his will to feel to engage with all this beauty but of course he fails. He’s not a part of this, he’s merely an observer and this saddens him …

That bright isle

That bright isle
up there among the grey
bustling waves of rain to be

its smiling beams
hit the green
with a warm kiss of things to be

it passes by
and there in its wake
are showers of flowers yet to be

that bright isle
up there among the grey
gives me a hope of kissing thee.

A glimpse

Life is beautiful

This life thing, this death thing
this wonderful opportunity to breathe

Everything has its day, everything has its night

We grow through time until humanity becomes something more
and as nature’s petals fall it reveals, gives us a glimpse of her secrets.

As a leaf falls

As a leaf falls

She will have her way as the slow progress of nature moves ever onwards.

Time is irrelevant for the leaf because it knows one day
it will become a tree, a rose or even a mountain
as we struggle in the mulch of our own awakening.
