The universe can feel you breathing

The universe can feel you breathing
can feel the moisture of your thoughts
as you sit in fear and contemplation
of that outside, that battle fought

The universe can feel you breathing
can feel your moments of regret
as you stand alone by your window
watching reflections of eyes so wet

The universe can feel you breathing
can feel your heart beat ancient blood
as you sit in time and anticipation
of that outside, that wretched hood

The universe can feel you breathing
can feel the softness of your soul
as you stand alone in solitude’s air
watching waiting for someone to hold

The universe can feel your pain
can feel your sadness deep and true
and as you stand without foundation
breathe and feel the universe in you

Heed

the named storm wakes me
with its whistles and drones

I sit here listening
trying to remember its name

I forget
but did I really take much notice

so of course I haven’t forgotten
if its name passed me by

That crack in the ceiling
that scar in my mind
that sinking
… softness of you

once

it’s futile
there’s nothing to remember
nothing to forget

nothing

but once

I have tree sap in my veins

***

I have tree sap in my veins
Rainwater in my tears
My spirit plays with thunderous joy
as the sunshine in my soul
bleeds

and as petals of love
open and sway
a fragrant caress
comes my way

I have tree sap in my veins
Lightning in my heart
My bones ache for the grind to ease
as the vision in my sight
fades

and as the night
makes way for day
a haunting feeling
comes my way

I have tree sap in my veins
Birdsong in my brain
My skin teeters on the edge of time
as the moonlight in my shadow
shines

and as sleepy waves
roll over my clay
I close my eyes
to dream of the day
